Discipline Code: Civility, Bullying, Profanity  Grant's 2010-2011 School-wide Plan for Success Disciple Code, the 3-R Discipline Program: Rules, Responsibility, and Respect, commits to ensuring that district campuses will be safe, secure and violence free places where all students can learn and achieve to their fullest potential. Therefore, drugs, weapons, profanity, verbal abuse, offensive physical contact, and assaults will not be tolerated. Students and adults who engage in these behaviors must accept the consequence that are associated with these behaviors. Students can report dangerous situations, threats of physical violence, acts of vandalism, and gang activity 24 hours a day by dialing 844-0400. The 3-R’s—Rules, Responsibilities, and Respect—are important components for everyone to follow. For more information see attachment.

SPIRIT TEAM  Practice will begin Monday, August 30 from 4:15-6:15 p.m. Bring your clothes in your spirit team bag and drop it off in Room 623 in the morning before the bell rings.

STUDENT COUNCIL  Reminder to those candidates running for Student Council. You will need to meet in Room 349 after school on Wednesday, September 1. Also, if you have not turned in your teacher signature sheets, you need to turn those in by Wednesday morning!

PTA T-SHIRT SALE   All this week during lunch! T-shirts are $12 and Hoodies are $20.

SCHEDULE CHANGES  Today is the last day to return schedule request forms if you are requesting a schedule change. Return form to the Counseling Office.

FROM THE CHIEF OF POLICE  Our Student Code of Conduct requires the use of respectful language by all students. While this is not new, we are implementing new procedures beginning this school year. If a student receives a disciplinary referral for using profanity in a disrespectful, defiant, or threatening manner, CCISD police officers will be issuing citations for a Class C misdemeanor starting Tuesday, August 24. All staff will be addressing inappropriate language and officers will be issuing written warnings today.

2010-2011 BACK 2 SCHOOL  The CCISD Back 2 School publication which includes information on enrollment, attendance, school boundaries, transportation, etc., will be inserted in the Sunday, August 8 edition of the Caller Times. To view publication now click on Back 2 School.

OPTIONAL FLEXIBLE YEAR PROGRAM  The CCISD 3-Tier Student Success Incentive (SSI) is a unique program ensuring success for all students in our district. The program takes into account successful completion of the state assessment and current promotion standards and offers an early end-of-school date, May 20, 2011, for those meeting all standards. Classes will continue through June 2, 2011 with small group instruction in an effort to further assist students in meeting the promotion standards. Those students who have not met promotion standards after June 2, 2011 may be required to attend summer school. SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS  There are new immunization requirements for the incoming 7th graders!!! Three shots are due the first day of school in the fall.  All 7th graders must have had a tetanus booster, a meningitis shot, and a second chickenpox shot.  Look for more information in your final report card that will be mailed to you.  Any questions, call nurse Mary.

TRAFFIC SIGNS  Attention Parents and Visitors: There are new traffic signs posted at Grant Middle School and barricades (chain with reflectors) located by both the Entrance and Exit of the building. Please observe all traffic signs: School Buses Only Do Not Enter; Right Turn Only; Entrance Only; Exit Only; One Way Only; No Parking Fire Zone (Red line by the curve). Violation of these traffic laws will result in citations and fines: Traffic Code 544.004 - Disregard Traffic Control Device; Traffic Code 544.005 - Interference with Traffic Control Device (Removal of chain with reflectors); The Police Department will be in full enforcement. Please keep in mind these signs are posted for the safety of our students.

Welcome to the home of the Elliott Grant Middle School Barracudas! Congratulations middle school students on arriving at a new academic milestone. I strongly believe that your middle school years are the time to strengthen your foundation on academics and to better prepare you for the future.

Grant administration, teachers, and staff are committed to assisting students with reaching their educational goals and instilling high expectations for all students. Not only do we stress the importance of academics, but we also want you to be actively involved in extra-curricular activities and school clubs.

I encourage you to take full advantage of the web site. It is a unique technological tool that gives Grant the reputation of being a middle school with a MISSION!

As we embark upon this new school year, I welcome the challenge and privilege of serving as your principal. Let's collaborate our efforts to meet our educational goals and expectations. Through hard work and dedication, I know we can maximize our potential for continued success!
